Nowadays, we frequently heard the word “social media influencer”. It seems its a new profession or career that everyone in social media wanted to be. Maybe because aside being well known and famous, it will make you earn a lot of money. But do we (people of the internet) really know the responsibility and the true meaning of it?

All of the citizen of internet and social media have the power to influence , thus it make as influencer. But it depends what kind of influence you want to spread. Some will post their lifestyles such as posing of having breakfast to a fancy cafe, or getting a new clothes to a paid endorsement.

But these days, the word has been wrongly used and abused in social media. There’s nothing wrong in sharing our lifestyle. Its part of our freedom and right to express ourselves and be confident about it. Unfortunately, as the number of people using social media as part of digital age, having great lifestyle, curated feed posts, fitness goals, etc. has been a norm throughout the social media platforms. It seem it became a basis of our status in society. And thus, the word influencer has been misguided.

Example, there are these ‘free loaders’ who claimed to be influencers that they got many followers all over social media and thus have the right of entitlement to get free stuff in return of giving a good review to the service through posting in their platform. Others are being paid over a product but they never use personally. Now, does it really a true influencer? Or they must be called simply a free loaders, endorser, reviewer?

Having said that, its still our choice how we will handle that word. Our decision to be influence by them. Or we can simple choose to be a good and real person without any cover ups and spread goodness around. That I think the greatest influence that we can give to the world.
